Hot Flushes, Cold Truths and a Warmer Future

It's hot & frosty!

Happy International Menopause Day!

Menopause is no longer a taboo subject in 2025. Conversations that once took place in whispers are now being held openly in offices, cafés, schools and on social media. It has taken years of work by campaigners, researchers and women simply refusing to be ignored. That shift has brought clear benefits. More women recognise the signs earlier, more workplaces are adapting, and friends are talking honestly rather than brushing symptoms aside.

Even with progress, the picture is far from perfect. Too many peri-menopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal women still find themselves without proper care. Symptoms are misread or minimised. Waiting times for treatment remain long. Access to hormone therapy and alternative options varies wildly depending on where you live. Many women spend years adapting their lives to fit symptoms that should have been treated properly from the start.

Stigma may have faded, but systemic gaps remain. It is not enough to talk about menopause; the systems meant to support women must match the conversation with action. Better training for healthcare professionals, fair access to treatments and proper investment in research are essential.

There are reasons to be hopeful. Advances in hormone therapy, more tailored treatment plans and emerging research into genetic markers are changing the landscape. Studies are exploring the links between menopause and cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and metabolic changes with unprecedented precision. Public awareness is on the rise, and younger generations are more informed than ever before.

Menopause has finally stepped out of the shadows. The work ahead is to ensure that awareness leads to better outcomes for every woman, regardless of her location or background. That future feels closer now than it has ever been.

Yara x
